The father of her is Argentine who is of Scottish and English descent. Her mother is Spanish and English. Her siblings include four members of her father's previous marriage. The family she grew up with was living in Buenos Aires from the time she was 6 until they relocated to Victoria, London. According to Taylor-Joy the move was traumatic and she did not want to study English with the intention of moving back to Argentina. Hill House was the new school she had to attend after switching from Northlands. After that, she was enrolled at Queen's Gate School where she studied ballet and acted in school plays. She dropped out of high school when she was 16 in order to pursue her acting career. Taylor-Joy was a child actress and was sure she would eventually become an actor. The realization of her dreams came when Sarah Doukas, the founder of Storm Management offered her a job as a model.
